Bigmouths continues c)i’s collaborative tradition by partnering with both a presenting organization, and with an emerging figure in the New York jazz scene to present the first concert of the c)i season. A virtuoso bassist, composer, collaborator and bandleader, Chris Lightcap is equally comfortable with avant-jazz and contemporary music, and is regarded as one of the foremost interpreters of the genre. He has collaborated on countless projects and over two dozen recordings with the likes of Marc Ribot, Regina Carter, Craig Taborn, Mark Turner, Sheila Jordan, and Tom Harrell. c)i composer Douglas Boyce will compose a work for Lightcap and c)i clarinetist Benjamin Fingland which straddles the two worlds.

Co-sponsor Elastic Arts Room is a new organization run by Christopher Zimmermann which fosters conversations and collaborations between artists in different genres or disciplines. Through audience-led discussions and an innovative blog-based pre-concert discussion, c)i and Elastic Arts Room will explore the very nature of improvisation and aleatoric music-making.

Programme:

“All I say is that non-experts often know more than experts and should therefore be consulted and that prophets of truth (including those who use arguments) more often than not are carried along by a visions that clashes with the very events that vision is supposed to be exploring. ”
--Paul K. Feyerabend, Against Method
