Talk Dirty to Me

Tue Dec 6 2005

“Talk Dirty to Me” will explore the interface of speech and sound in music. Vinko Golobokar’s Dos a Dos transforms speech into volcanic eruptions of extended techniques, while Miroslav Pudlak’s Sextet uses synthetic grammar to generate an empty language, devoid of semantic content, but filled with elegant gestures and delicate textures. Also featured will be works by Jonathan Harvey, Douglas Boyce, and Kyle Bartlett. Douglas Boyce’s Palimpsest considers the Renaissance suggetto cavato technique to distinctly modern effect, and Kyle Bartlett’s Discipline examines how texts are rendered incomprehensible through translations from language to language, context to context and voice to instrument. This concert is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.
