2024 - 2025 Season

In the coming season, concerts The Order of Things and Rotations showcase a kaleidoscopic range of contemporary classical music, featuring compositions from many cultural and historical contexts. Both programs explore modern compositional techniques, unconventional instrumentations, and the interplay between tradition and innovation.

The Order of Things (Tenri Cultural Institute, Oct 20 at 4 pm) presents works by composers Jukka Tiensuu, Inbal Segev, Kyle Bartlett, Jeffrey Mumford, Douglas Boyce, and Diego Tedesco. This concert explores themes like individual vs. collective expression, the richness of lived experience, and the limits of rationality. It incorporates elements from different musical traditions, including rock influences, early music and minimalism, while maintaining a focus on modernist idioms.

Rotations features compositions that integrate classical guitar into chamber music settings and explores the origins and evolution of musical language. It includes world premieres by Mark Rimple and Yoon-Ji Lee, as well as works by Kyle Bartlett and Douglas Boyce. This program emphasizes the connections between historical and contemporary musical practices, with pieces drawing inspiration from various artistic disciplines and historical periods.

Both concerts richly demonstrate counter)induction's commitment to presenting pluralistic snapshots of contemporary classical music, investigating counterpoint, virtuosity, modernity, historicity, and the nature of art itself.
